Rafah

A border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt in the city of Rafah. On May 7, 2024, the Israeli military seized the Gaza side of the crossing, destroyed a large part of it, and put it out of commission. During the ceasefire in early 2025, the crossing was reopened in an extremely limited capacity for travel by wounded Palestinians. On March 18, Israel shut it down once again. On February 2, 2026, the crossing was reopened once more on a very limited scale as part of a “ceasefire agreement”, and it currently allows very restricted movement of patients and their escorts (up to 150 a day) to Egypt, as well as the return of Gaza residents who left the Strip during the war (up to 50 a day).
