Ramin, Tulkarm District: Settlers pelt house with stones late at night, smashing windows

On 19 December 2021, at midnight, about 15 settlers attacked the home of Miflah and Hanan Hamad and their six children in the village of Ramin, using stones. The settlers smashed five windows in the home, one of them above the bed of a family member, as well as a sink in the yard. Miflah Hamad (52) was woken up when his daughter alerted him to the attack. He climbed to the roof of his house and threw stones at the settlers to drive them away. The settlers got into their car and fled the area, and Hamad reported the attack to the Palestinian police.

Ru’a Hamad described the nocturnal attack on her family’s home in a testimony she gave B’Tselem field researcher Abdulkarim Sadi that same day:

I’m a student. That night, I was still up studying around midnight. Suddenly, a large rock came through my bedroom window. The glass shattered and scattered across my bed. I got a real fright and started yelling to my father that settlers were attacking our house, so he’d wake up. I ran, scared, to my parents’ room. My father got up and climb the stairs to the roof to try and drive away the vile settlers. He came back a few minutes later and told us they had driven toward the Tulkarm-Nablus road. The settlers shattered five windows in the house.

It's the first time anything like that has ever happened to me, and it was terrifying. None of us slept that night, and in the morning, I was too exhausted and scared to go to school.

In a testimony he gave B’Tselem field researcher Abdulkarim Sadi on the same day, Ru’a’s father, Miflah Hamad (52), recounted:

I was woken in the middle of the night by my daughter Ru’a shouting: “Dad! Dad! Wake up! Settlers are attacking our home!” I jumped out of bed and went straight up to the roof. I saw three Israeli cars parked in front of my house and about 15 settlers throwing stones, aiming directly at the windows and the yard.

I shouted at them and threw some stones I found on the roof in their direction. The settlers, who were apparently surprised by my presence on the roof and by the stones I’d thrown, ran to their cars, got inside and drove quickly towards the main road.

After the settlers fled, I came down from the roof to check on the damage. I discovered they had smashed five windows and a handwashing sink I’d installed in the yard. There were dozens of stones in the yard. The settlers also smashed the window in my daughter Ru’a’s room. Her bed is near the window, and pieces of glass fell on her bed. We were lucky she wasn’t hurt. The settlers attacked right when she was going to go to sleep, but she hadn’t gotten into bed yet.

I called the Palestinian police to report the attack. My wife and children were terrified by the savage terror attack, committed against civilians peacefully sleeping in their home. We all had trouble going back to sleep. We stayed up until morning. Many relatives and residents from the village came over to see how we were doing.

In the morning, I sent the five broken windows to Tulkarm to be fitted with new glass panes, because we can’t have broken windows in the winter.
