Huwarah, Nablus District: Israeli settlers attack Palestinian couple’s car with iron bars, smashing windows and injuring one passenger

On Sunday, 4 December 2022, at around 9:30 P.M., Basmah (51) and Muhammad (53) ‘Odeh, a married couple from Deir al-Hatab in the Nablus District, drove home after visiting their daughter in the village of Sarra in the same district. When they arrived at the Huwarah-Yitzhar junction on Route 60, Basmah, who was driving, noticed a car with an Israeli license plate parked by the side of the road. When the couple passed the car, the driver began driving and blocked them. Four settlers armed with iron bars got out and started attacking the couple's car. The settlers smashed the windshield and the passenger’s side window, opened the passenger door, beat Muhammad with an iron bar and tried to pull him out, but were unsuccessful due to his seat belt. When a Palestinian car approached, the settlers left.

The couple drove on for a short distance and then pulled over next to soldiers who were standing at the junction and asked them for help. Meanwhile, the assailants returned in their car and spoke to the soldiers in Hebrew. The soldiers ordered Basmah to continue driving home so the settlers would not attack them again. The couple drove to Nablus, where they met their sons, who drove them to Rafidya Hospital. They were examined, and Muhammad was treated for facial wounds caused by glass shards and bruises on his left arm inflicted with iron bars.
