Huwarah, Nablus District: Israeli settlers and soldiers attack and injure Palestinian truck driver; settlers attack homes in front of soldiers, who fire tear gas canisters at town residents

On Tuesday, 11 October 2022, Palestinian gunmen killed Israeli soldier Ido Baruch at a military post near the settlement of Shavei Shomron. Early the next morning, the military put the city of Nablus and villages in the vicinity under closure for 23 days. That day and through the following days, the military allowed settlers to block roads and attack cars, homes and businesses in the town of Huwarah.

That Tuesday, at around 12:30 P.M., more than 20 soldiers blocked Palestinian cars from entering the section of Route 60 that runs through Huwarah, allowing only settler traffic through. Muhammad Madin (30), a Palestinian truck driver, blocked the road in protest and was attacked by settlers and soldiers, who beat him with their rifles and hands, breaking his nose and injured him in the head. The soldiers then detained him, handcuffed and blindfolded him, and took him to the Huwarah military base, where he was interrogated and released around 10:30 P.M. that night.

That night, at around 9:00 P.M., dozens of settlers escorted by about 20 soldiers attacked homes in Huwarah with stones. They shattered two windows in the home of Bilal Dmeidi (52) and a light on his roof, cracked a window in Yusef Dmeidi’s truck and a window in Ziad Dmeidi’s balcony door. The soldiers threw stun grenades and fired tear gas canisters at town residents who tried to drive the settlers away. No one was hurt.
