Um Lasafa, South Hebron Hills: Israeli settlers attack Palestinian family grazing their flock on their own land

On Friday morning, 10 March 2023, while Nasrallah Hmeidat (17) grazed his flock in his family’s lands south east of the community, three settlers armed with clubs arrived with a flock of sheep. Hmeidat called his mother Raedah Hmeidat (40) and his brother Naser. The family and the settlers got into an altercation, during which settlers pushed Raedah Hmeidat, knocking her down. Three soldiers who appeared to have been called by the settlers physically pushed the family off the land.

On Sunday, 12 March 2023, Naser Hmeidat received a summons to the Kiryat Arba police station, where he was interrogated for two hours on suspicion of assaulting a soldier. Hmeidat was released after posting NIS 1000 (NIS 1 = NIS 0.27) in bail and after a restraining order keeping him away from the family’s lands for 15 days was issued.
