Sinjil, Ramallah District: Settlers and soldiers drove olive harvesters out, stole belongings and confiscated a car

On Saturday morning, 11 November 2023, while the Ghafri family were harvesting olives on their land about 100 meters from homes in the village of Sinjil, six soldiers arrived in a military jeep. They checked the family’s ID cards and mobile phones, refused to give the phones back, and instructed the family to gather their belongings and leave the olive grove.

While the family were getting into their jeep, a settler security vehicle arrived and five people got out – three men, one of them armed, a woman and a soldier. The settlers and the soldier approached the family, who also got out of their jeep. A confrontation ensued between the two groups, involving mutual shoving, and eventually the settlers grabbed the keys to the jeep, and threatened the family at gunpoint to leave the area on foot. The family then watched from a distance as the soldiers who drove them out earlier confiscated their car and its contents: four large mats, a sack of olives, a saw for cutting branches and an ID card belonging to a member of the family. The soldiers drove the car to a nearby military base. As of 13 December, the car and its contents had not been returned to its owners.
