On Saturday morning, 10 August 2024, two soldiers entered the community of Khirbet Susiya in the South Hebron Hills, riding an ATV. Residents recognized them as area settlers.
One of the soldiers ordered international activists who were there to hand over their passports. When a community resident started filming him, the soldier chased him and shouted, “You’re not allowed to film soldiers.” A few minutes later, an Israeli activist arrived and also started filming him. The soldier hit the activist and demanded he put the camera down. A few minutes later, both soldiers left.
This is not the first time this soldier has come to the community, wandered among homes and harassed residents. Whenever they tried to film him, he claimed – baselessly – that they were forbidden by law. This conduct is not exceptional; it is part of the violent routine that Israel enforces daily on Palestinians, as part of its regime of occupation and apartheid.
