On Friday, 18 October 2024, at around 9:30 A.M., farmers from Khirbet Susiya, accompanied by activists, arrived to harvest olives in their groves south of the community. After about 20 minutes, soldiers, some of them known to the residents and activists as settlers, gathered nearby. They headed towards the harvesters, joined by four settlers, two of whom were armed with clubs, one masked and the other with a knife in his pocket.
The soldiers went up to the harvesters and told them they may not be allowed to harvest in the area and that they had to stop harvesting until the matter was cleared up. Meanwhile, the settlers advanced towards the harvesters and activists, and one of them started hitting the activists with a club. One activist was injured in the ribs and taken to the hospital in the town of Yatta, where it turned out she had a broken rib. Another activist was injured in the hand but did not require medical attention.
After the attack, the soldiers asked the settlers to leave and then ordered the harvesters to leave as well, threatening to arrest anyone who continued to harvest. The harvesters refused to leave, and ultimately, Israel Police and Border Police officers came and said harvesting was permitted in the area, but when an altercation happens, as it did in that case, harvesting activity must stop. The officers called DCO personnel and left, but the latter did not arrive and the harvesters were forced to go home.
