Jaba’, Jenin District: Israeli settlers broke into a remote Palestinian house, attacked the occupants with clubs and destroyed property

On Thursday, 7 November 2024, at around 7:00 P.M., brothers Muhammad (43), Muntasser (40), and Anas (20) Hamamreh were sitting in the living room of their isolated home, located about three kilometers from the center of the village. Suddenly, they heard noises outside. Muhammad and Muntasser went out to investigate, while Anas remained at the doorway. From there, he saw approximately 18 masked settlers, armed with clubs, attacking his two brothers and beating them. Anas ran into the bathroom and locked the door. His brothers managed to get away from the settlers and fled about 200 meters from the house. From there, they watched as the settlers smashed the windows of one family car and set fire to another. Some of the settlers broke into the house, broke down the bathroom door, and assaulted Anas. They beat him on his head and other parts of his body, as one threatened him with a toy firearm. The settlers smashed the television set and the table at the entrance to the house, and left after about ten minutes.

Village residents who arrived drove the three brothers to the village clinic, and from there they were transferred to Khalil a-Salman Hospital in Jenin, where their injuries were treated. Muhammad, who had suffered a head wound, required stitches. Anas’s shoulder was set, and he was referred for further tests due to pain in his ear.

In a testimony given to B’Tselem field researcher Abdulkarim Sadi on 11 November 2024, Anas Hamamreh recounted:

On Thursday, 7 November 2024, at around 7:00 P.M., my brothers Muhammad, Muntasser, and I were sitting in the living room of our house in Khalayel a-Rihan, east of Jaba’, drinking coffee, when we heard voices and noise outside. My brothers went out to see what was happening, and I stood in the doorway. That’s when I saw masked settlers approaching to attack our home. I saw them holding sticks, and they started beating my brothers. I got scared and immediately ran to the bathroom and locked the door. Suddenly, I heard the settlers swearing and shouting in Hebrew. They broke down the bathroom door and started beating me with sticks. One of them pointed a gun at me that made a loud noise and released a strong burst of air, but it wasn’t a regular gun. The settlers stayed for a few minutes, broke the TV set and the glass table at the entrance, and then left. Afterwards, I saw that they had set fire to the family’s Daihatsu jeep and smashed the windows of another car parked in front of the house. I sent a message on social media telling village youths that settlers had attacked us. Villagers arrived and took us to the village clinic, and from there we were transferred to Jenin Hospital for tests.
