Khirbet Yanun al-Foqa (the village of Yanun), Nablus District: Israeli settlers forced out the last families living in the upper part of the village and blocked access to it with an iron gate

On Sunday, 28 December 2025, the last two families living in the upper part of the village of Yanun (known as Khirbet Yanun al-Foqa) left their homes, after four settlers arrived that morning, at least one of them armed with a rifle, and threatened to kill all family members if they did not leave the area before 4:00 P.M. With this, the settlers completed the expulsion of the community, after three other families left the previous day.

Residents had lived at the site for many years, raised sheep and cattle and worked in agriculture. Since the early 2000s, when the military and settlers closed the old ‘Aqraba–Nablus road that connected Yanun to the city of Nablus, and the southern West Bank to its north, the community has been accessible only via ‘Aqraba. Since the area was defined as Area C in the Oslo Accords, all new construction was prohibited, as well as additions to existing structures.

As a result, many families were forced to leave the community and move to the lower part of the village of Yanun (Yanun a-Tahta) or to ‘Aqraba, and of the 18 families that lived in Yanun al-Foqa until 2000, only five families remained. Since October 2023, settlers have increased their presence in the area, and, along with the military, have blocked residents’ access to pastureland and restricted their movement.

Following all this, the last five families, numbering 18 people, including nine women and one minor girl, were forced to leave their homes. As soon as they did, the settlers installed an iron gate at the entrance to Yanun al-Foqa, to prevent them from returning.
