On Monday, 30 September 2024, ‘Ali Jibrin, a Yatta resident, arrived at his olive grove in She’b al-Batem in to discover about 100 of his 450 trees had been cut down and their fruit harvested and stolen. On Sunday, 20 October 2024, Jibrin went to harvest in the grove along with some family members. Around noon, about five settlers arrived from the direction of the settlement of Avigayil, including the settlement guard on an ATV. One of the settlers pushed Jibrin, and the others shouted at the rest of the family that they had to leave. The settlers began collecting the olives the family had managed to harvest. As the family was making its way out of the area, the settlers and settlement guard stole the olives and left too. On 23 October 2024, Jibrin went back to the police station to file a complaint about the olive tree felling and crop theft.
In a testimony he gave B'Tselem field researcher Basel al-Adrah on 28 November 2024, Jibrin said:
I thought about going back to the land, but I'm worried about my family and me being attacked and our olives getting stolen like last time. Last year I only produced four cans of oil because it was a weak season and also because we weren't able to get to the land during the year to plow and take care of the trees. And now this year, we won’t get anything again because of the settlers' attacks, theft, and tree felling.
