'Aref Daraghmeh, age 32
On Saturday, 31 August 2002, at around 4:30 P.M., I was standing with some people at the entrance of my house, in the eastern neighborhood of Tubas. I saw two Apache helicopters hovering above the neighborhood. One of the helicopters fired a missile, which landed about fifty meters away from my house. The missile landed on the side of the road, near the house of 48 year-old Nahila Salameh Daraghmeh. She was injured by shrapnel. Her 30 year-old brother, Ibrahim, was also injured. Later, another missile hit the house of my neighbor, Ghaleb Mahmud Daraghmeh. The house was partially damaged and Ghaleb's mother, 52 year-old Tanha Jamil Daraghmeh, was injured by shrapnel and was taken to a hospital.
The helicopter then fired a third missile towards a silver Mitsubishi, which had four people in it. The missile hit the trunk and the car spun around its axis. I saw a man stepping out of the car and running away. The three other passengers remained inside. I saw an arm and an upper part of a skull flying out of the car. The car went up in flames and I could see three bodies burning inside it.
Three minutes later, after the Israeli helicopters left, I went out to the street and began to shout. I saw people lying on the ground. Among them was six-year-old Bahira Burman Daraghmeh. She was dead. I remember seeing Bahira two minutes before the attack in one of the nearby stores, buying supplies for her first day of school. I also saw Bahira's cuosin, Osama Ibrahim Daraghmeh. He he had been hit by shrapnel. He ran about 25 meters and then fell on the ground and died. I saw Osama's mother running towards Bahira, picking her up and heading towards the a-Shifa clinic, which is about 500 meters away. I went to the clinic and saw her screaming after seeing the body of her son, Osama.
I later found out that the attack was meant to assassinate two people who were wanted by Israel. They were inside the car that was hit. One of them managed to escape. The other one, 28 year-old Rafat 'Akab Daraghmeh, was killed.
The other fatalities are: 17 year-old Yazid 'Abd a-Razek Daraghmeh and 16 year-old Sari Mahmud Subeh. I think they had no connection to the two wanted men. I also found out that Rafat Daraghmeh was an activist in the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade in Tubas.
All the wounded were transferred to the government hospital in Jenin by a Red Crescent ambulance
In addition, I saw about ten houses which were heavily damaged. The missiles landed in the center of the eastern neighborhood of Tubas.
