Burqah, Ramallah District: Settlers armed with clubs attack Palestinian and break his nose

On 18 January 2022, at around 12:30 P.M., village resident Salah Mu’tan (57) noticed about five masked settlers armed with clubs near the eastern road that leads into the village. Mu’tan approached the spot, parked his car and got out to warn a shepherd who was in the area. Meanwhile, a young man from the village also arrived. Fifteen other settlers approached Mu’tan and beat him with clubs on his head and chest. The shepherd and the young managed to escape, and Mu’tan, who was able to break free of the settlers, returned to his car and fled towards the village. He picked up the young man, dropped him off in the village and drove to a clinic in a nearby village, where he was diagnosed with bruises on his body and an X-ray revealed that his nose was broken. He was treated and discharged.

In a testimony he gave B’Tselem researcher Iyad Hadad, Mu’tan, a father of eight, recounted:

I saw about 15 more settlers approaching me from the direction of Givat Assaf. The young village resident who was in the area and the shepherd managed to escape. The settlers attacked me and gave me a hard blow to the nose, and then hit me in the chest and ribs. I ran to my car and managed to get out of there. On the way, I met the young man and took him to the village. I drove to the clinic in the village of Deir Dobwan near Burqah. They did X-rays and found that I had a broken nose. I also had bruises on my body. Then they released me. I didn’t file a complaint with the Israeli police because they won’t do anything about it.
