B'Tselem's Response to the attack at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem

B'Tselem strongly condemns today's attack at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, in which innocent civilians were killed and injured.

Attacks on civilians violate all rules of morality and law. The intentional killing of civilians is a "grave breach" of international humanitarian law and defined as a war crime. Whatever the circumstances, such acts are unjustifiable.

B'Tselem urges the Palestinian Authority to do everything in its power to prevent future attacks on Israeli civilians, and to investigate and prosecute those responsible for the attack today.

B'Tselem urges the Israeli government to refrain from harming Palestinian civilians in response to this attack.
